Election 08: Is early Campaigning causing complications?

Filed under: Politics —— Chris @ 1:09 pm

They’re every where now.  They’re on TV, in the newspapers, all over the internet and even in people’s yards.   It can only mean one thing:  it’s the election season again.

Despite the election being more than a year away, presidential candidates have already begun making themselves known and actively campaigning for their shot at presidency.

However, it leaves many wondering, “Why are they starting so early?”  Aren’t candidates worried about the voters getting sick and tired of listening to them for more than a year?  There are many different factors about this election at play to influence the early start in the campaigning process.

“What makes this election so special in comparison to any of the last ones is that this is the first time since 1929 that there is no incumbent (president or working directly under them) running for president,” said
Liberty and Law teacher Brian Latham.  Latham sees this being what is contributing towards the early start of the campaigning, and having positive results.

“With all the media outlets and the role the internet has played in giving out information on the candidates, it wouldn’t surprise me if this election has a record voter turnout.”  Does this mean the candidates understand how important this election, but what about voters, does this do anything for us?  To junior Zack H, it’s better for the voter than the candidate.

“What I like about the campaigning starting so early is that it will give us a chance to see if the candidates actually stick by their word for the whole year they’re campaigning,” said Zack.

Rather than loathe the on going barrage of coverage being given to the election already, people should see it as an opportunity to get a real in-depth look at who might be running this country.

Drug Testing

Filed under: School Policies —— Chris @ 1:04 pm

As any one can see at the high school, the biggest buzz so far has been over the drug testing policy. In the editorial about the drug testing, I only got to touch up on a couple of things that I see wrong with it. Here I want to see what all of you out there in Willard, and the blogosphere have to say about the new drug testing policy. I’ll start: What’s really aggrivating me now is that there aren’r many kids as upset or more about the sudden appearance of a drug testing policy. Students should be at most infuriated and at least upset about this sudden occurence. I want to hear what every one out there has to say about it.  Also, Click Here to take a poll so we can get an idea of how every one feels about the drug testing
